Football Game Preview: Sevier County Smoky Bears vs. Cocke County Fighting Cocks

The Sevier County Smoky Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Cocke County Fighting Cocks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sevier County's defense has only allowed 11 points per game this season, so Cocke County's offense will have their work cut out for them.

On Thursday, Sevier County needed a bit of extra time to put away Greeneville. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Greene Devils 30-27. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Smoky Bears were the better team in the second half.

Among those leading the charge was Bryson Headrick, who picked up 59 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Nathan Patterson handled things on the ground, rushing for 96 yards.

Meanwhile, Cocke County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. The game between the Fighting Cocks and Daniel Boone didn't end well, with the Fighting Cocks falling 21-7.

Sevier County's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Cocke County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything came up roses for Sevier County against Cocke County in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 63-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Smoky Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
