Baseball Recap: Herrin Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

While Herrin put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Anna-Jonesboro. The Tigers walked away with a 3-0 win over the Wildcats. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The result came thanks to Chance Estes's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Herrin is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Herrin's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Talan Nemeth, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

The victory got Herrin back to even at 5-5. As for Anna-Jonesboro, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Herrin and Anna-Jonesboro could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Tigers will square off against Zeigler-Royalton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (187 vs. 35). Meanwhile, Anna-Jonesboro (ranked 267th) will meet Johnston City (ranked 76th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
