Flag Football Recap: Izzie Dieter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Torrey Pines over San Marcos

Torrey Pines was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 31-26 heartbreaker at the hands of the San Marcos Knights. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Torrey Pines lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Izzie Dieter, who threw for 284 yards and four TDs. Alexa Avila helped Dieter out on the ground, picking up 59 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 42 yards and one score.

Even if they lost, Torrey Pines' defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Kathrine Janis was especially locked on to San Marcos' QB and sacked her twice. Janis is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

Torrey Pines' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-9. As for San Marcos, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-6.

Torrey Pines and San Marcos should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Falcons (ranked 29th) will meet San Dieguito Academy (ranked 255th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, San Marcos will take on Escondido at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (132 vs. 459).
