Baseball Recap: Penncrest Lions vs. Strath Haven Panthers
Penncrest had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it four. They fell just short of the Strath Haven Panthers by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 back in March.
As for Strath Haven, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.
For Strath Haven's part, Rob Mattai spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. Mattai is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ben Milligan, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
