Recap: Hammond Golden Bears vs. Atholton Raiders
This season hasn't been kind to The Hammond Golden Bears, who are still winless after their eighth match. They took a serious blow against Atholton on Thursday, falling 41-6. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hammond in their matchups with Atholton: they've now lost five in a row.
Cameron Lee was on fire for Atholton: he rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Lee's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Daniel Ogordi also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Hammond's loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Mt. Hebron and 6-2 Reservoir (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.5% over those games). As for Atholton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Hammond will be playing at home against Oakland Mills at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. As for Atholton, they will head out on the road to face off against River Hill at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (River Hill is ranked 119th, while Atholton is ranked 126th).
