Softball Game Preview: Tigerton Tigers vs. Northland Lutheran Wildcats

Tigerton has gone a perfect 4-0 against Northland Lutheran recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Tigerton put up the most runs they have all season last Tuesday. They blew past Port Edwards 17-2. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Tigers with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Northland Lutheran challenged Bowler/Gresham Community on Monday. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 17-0 shutout.

Kaydence Marquardt made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Paige Kunkel was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sarah Gustafson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Tigerton now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Northland Lutheran, their record now sits at 4-2.

Tigerton was able to grind out a solid victory over Northland Lutheran when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
