Basketball Game Preview: Midway Raiders vs. Triton Hawks

Midway hasn't had much luck against Triton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Hawks at 7:30 p.m.

Midway is leaving town to face Triton after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Raiders took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Johnston on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Triton put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 65-60 W against Harnett Central. The win almost wasn't to be: the Hawks were down 31-15 in the second quarter.

Triton's win came from a few key players Midway will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gavin Matthews, who went 9-for-12 to rack up 21 points. What's more, he also posted a 75% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jamaury Taylor, who shot 60% from the field en route to 15 points and three steals.

Midway came up short against Triton in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 63-56. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
