Baseball Recap: Sandpoint Starts Season with Win on the Road

Sandpoint had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Lewiston Bengals by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 13-4 victory the Bengals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Jesse Turner made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Sandpoint let Mason Little and Soren Caprio run wild. Little scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Caprio scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Caprio has posted since back in March of 2024. Andrew Lehman was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Lewiston's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lewiston beat Sandpoint by a score of 3-2 later that day.
