The Rossville Hornets will head out to challenge the Eastern Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rossville has five straight victories, Eastern has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rossville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 37-8 margin over Frankfort on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Autumn Paschal, who fired off three home runs, ten RBI, and six runs while going 5-for-5. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addi Gorbett, who went 4-for-6 with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI.
Rossville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frankfort only posted an OBP of .483.
Delphi Community hit Eastern with a five-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets fell just short of the Oracles by a score of 9-8.
Maddy Stevens was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Hendricks, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Rossville's victory was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
Eastern's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rossville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. It's a different story for Eastern, though, as they've only averaged .354. Will they be able to contain Rossville's hitters?
Rossville beat Eastern 9-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
