The Troy Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Towanda Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Troy has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Towanda will arrive with three straight victories.
On Friday, Troy didn't have quite enough to beat Athens and fell 3-1. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly two runs.
Erinn Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Troy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddyson Muir, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Towanda put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Hughesville. The Knights walked away with a 3-0 win over the Spartans.
The result came thanks to Leila Cobb's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caedence Wells, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylen Sluyter, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Troy's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Towanda, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Troy suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Towanda in their previous matchup last Wednesday. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
