Baseball Recap: Hawley Gets the Win

Hawley came out on top against Anson on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Bearcats walked away with an 8-3 win over the Tigers. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Jesse Nieto made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Nieto was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Derek Nieto and Aiden Romo did most of the damage at the plate: Derek went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Romo went 2-for-4 with two runs. Hawley is undefeated when Romo posts two or more runs, but 1-2-1 otherwise. Drew Siller also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Hawley's win bumped their record up to 4-2-1. As for Anson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hawley will challenge rival Stamford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Anson is set to square off against their familiar foe Albany at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
