Baseball Recap: Covina Falls to Montebello in First Game of Season

Covina unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Montebello Oilers by a score of 5-4 on Monday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Covina got a good showing from C. Guzman, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

On the hitting side, R. Silva and D. Johnson did some serious damage despite the final result: Silva scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Johnson scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covina will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Garey at 3:15 p.m. on March 5th. Montebello also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against San Gabriel at 3:30 p.m. on March 3rd.
