Softball Recap: Overfelt Victorious

Overfelt took a 14-run defeat the last time they faced off against Gunderson, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Overfelt Royals narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Grizzlies 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Overfelt Royals.

Erica Rocha spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lisa Saoimanulua, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Saoimanulua is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katherine Mercado, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Overfelt picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Gunderson, they moved to 6-4 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Overfelt is set to square off against their familiar foe Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gunderson will take on rival Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
