Soccer Game Preview: Lincoln vs. Springfield Southeast

The Lincoln Railsplitters will venture away from home to take on the Springfield Southeast Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Lincoln is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against Sacred Heart-Griffin on Tuesday. Neither the Railsplitters nor the Cyclones could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Springfield Southeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Bloomington, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Springfield Southeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 421st, while Bloomington are ranked 203rd).

Springfield Southeast's loss dropped their record down to 3-15-2. Lincoln's draw makes their record 4-14-1 this season.

Lincoln was able to grind out a solid victory over Springfield Southeast in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Railsplitters since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
