Basketball Recap: Aurora Central Comes Up Short

Aurora Central played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Thomas Jefferson Spartans and fell 72-40. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alejandro (Alex) Flores, who went 6-for-13 on his way to 16 points. The game was Flores' seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Gabou (Ben) Camara, who posted seven points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Aurora Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

Shane Curry was his usual excellent self, going 9-for-18 en route to 28 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals for Thomas Jefferson. Those five steals gave Curry a new career-high. Mosely Rowekamp was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Aurora Central now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Thomas Jefferson, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Aurora Central will challenge Gateway at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aurora Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season. As for Thomas Jefferson, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-49 win against Denver North on the 14th.
