Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Comes Up Short

Sacred Heart Prep might've scored the first runs on Saturday, but it was Half Moon Bay who claimed the real prize. The Gators fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Sacred Heart Prep got a good showing from Connor Schmalzle, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schmalzle has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sacred Heart Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nico Pollioni, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Another was JP Durrett, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

The defeat snapped Sacred Heart Prep's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-11 record. As for Half Moon Bay, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart Prep will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hillsdale at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Half Moon Bay, they will host Los Altos at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
