Baseball Game Preview: Cary Academy Chargers vs. Franklin Academy Patriots

The Cary Academy Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Franklin Academy Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cary Academy, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Cary Academy turned things around against Trinity Academy last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 6-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Cary Academy's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Rutger Jack, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Andrew Wessels also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Franklin Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against North Johnston, falling 12-2.

Trey Anderson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Franklin Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Cary Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cary Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Franklin Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Cary Academy skirted past Franklin Academy 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cary Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
