Softball Game Preview: Vernonia Loggers vs. Corbett Cardinals

The Vernonia Loggers will head out on the road to face off against the Corbett Cardinals at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Vernonia has given up an average of 16.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Vernonia is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 23-22 heartbreaker at the hands of Colton.

Julia Busch and Chloe Schumburg did some serious damage despite the final result: Busch scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances, while Schumburg got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five runs gave Busch a new career-high. Lila Eckert was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Vernonia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .635. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Corbett had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost 26-9 to Mountain View.

Bella Austinson and Paige Denney stepped up to the plate in a big way. Austinson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Denney scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Malaya Cannon-Peterson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Vernonia's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Corbett, they dropped their record down to 0-1 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
