Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. West Johnston Wildcats

The Smithfield-Selma Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 65-46 to West Johnston. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smithfield-Selma in their matchups with West Johnston: they've now lost four in a row.

Smithfield-Selma's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Stewart, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Elijah Bailey was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Caden Horay was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five assists and three steals for West Johnston. The team also got some help courtesy of William Moore, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Smithfield-Selma bumped their record down to 2-9 with that loss, which was their 17th straight on the road. As for West Johnston, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8.

Smithfield-Selma will head out on the road to face off against Southern Wayne at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Johnston, they will play host again and welcome C.B. Aycock, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in C.B. Aycock's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
