Softball Recap: West Wendover Comes Up Short

West Wendover extended their losing streak to 11 on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-14. They came up short against the Battle Mountain Longhorns, falling 20-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-3 on Friday.

As for Battle Mountain, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.

For Battle Mountain's part, Natalia Gonzales made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Gonzales a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Ella Matheus was incredible, firing off two triples, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ella Moore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Battle Mountain beat West Wendover by a score of 20-0 later that day.
