Basketball Recap: Newport Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Newport extended their road winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from James Turner. The Newport Wildcats blew past the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds 69-46 on Wednesday thanks in part to Turner, who went 12 of 18 en route to 32 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

DaShawn Anderson was another key player, putting up six points in addition to five boards and three steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in December of 2024.

Newport is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Newport Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.

Newport has already played their next match (against Covington Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Newport Central Catholic will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m.
