Basketball Recap: Sheliyah Battle and Dijiona Berrien Secure Win for Simeon

With a playoff win on the line, Simeon rose to the challenge on Thursday. They walked away with a 41-34 win over the Evergreen Park Mustangs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.

Simeon was led to victory by Dijiona Berrien and Sheliyah Battle. Berrien dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Battle on her way to 12 points. Berrien has become a key player for Simeon: the team is 13-6 when she posts at least ten boards, but 3-8 otherwise.

Evergreen Park lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ella Throndson, who posted nine points and four steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kyziah Lewis was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Simeon's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-14. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Evergreen Park, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-11.

Simeon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 50-48 loss against Perspectives Leadership/Technology on the 25th. Evergreen Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
