Football Recap: Ian Gebhardt Key Part of Team Effort in Jaguars Win

Mansfield Summit won against Mansfield two weeks ago with 34 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Jaguars snuck past the Burleson Elks with a 34-30 victory. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Elks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Mansfield Summit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Gebhardt out in front who rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 111 yards and one TD. Adarion Nettles helped out on the ground, rushing for 153 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Mansfield Summit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Sebastian Pena. Pena is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Cameron Hall was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks and making 12 total tackles (7.0 for loss).

Despite the loss, Burleson still got an impressive performance from Andrew Sparks, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 146 yards on 11 of 26 attempts.

Mansfield Summit now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Burleson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coincidentally, Mansfield Summit and Burleson will both be playing Grapevine the next time they take the field. The Jaguars will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Elks will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
