Bayfield is 9-1 against Centauri since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Wolverines will head out to challenge the Falcons at 11:00 a.m. Bayfield has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Bayfield and Montrose, and Montrose kept the tradition alive. The Wolverines came up short against the Red Hawks on Tuesday, falling 23-5. The Wolverines have struggled against the Red Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Josiah Mayfield made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Estavan Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Centauri waltzed into their matchup last Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Indians. While the Falcons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Dylan Gallardo was excellent, firing off two home runs and one stolen base while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Ryder Norton also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Centauri lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Centauri's record is now 6-1. As for Bayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bayfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Centauri struggles in that department as they've averaged .602. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bayfield came up short against Centauri in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 5-1. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
