Baseball Recap: Swink's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Swink dropped their record down to 9-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 14-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Holly Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 10-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2019.

Nick Paolucci was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Swink is 7-3 when Paolucci posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

Paolucci wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nate Cabrera, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Cabrera is becoming a predictor of Swink's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-4 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

As for Holly, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games.

Like Swink, Holly also got a great game from a two-way player: Truman King. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. King has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Coy King was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Swink will challenge Hoehne at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions are facing the Farmers at the right time seeing as the Farmers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Holly, they will square off against Wiley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in the Wildcats' favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while the Panthers have been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
