Softball Recap: Calexico Comes Up Short

Calexico had lost seven straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-16 to make it eight. They came up short against the Southwest EC Eagles, falling 12-2. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

As for Southwest EC, their record is now 14-11-1. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 11 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Southwest EC's part, Ashley Booth was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Booth has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Southwest EC let Vielka Salcido and Kaydence Wiewel run wild. Salcido fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3, while Wiewel went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those two home runs gave Salcido a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Monett Zavala, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As of now, neither Calexico nor Southwest EC have any future games scheduled.
