Baseball Recap: Rochester Rams vs. Winchester Thurston

Rochester had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it six. They fell just short of Winchester Thurston by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Winchester Thurston this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-9 on Monday.

Jensen Seybert and Cole Poplin did some serious damage despite the final result: Seybert got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Poplin went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Poplin has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Cameron Janectic also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Winchester Thurston, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.

On Winchester Thurston's side, Mason Witten was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles Witten has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lucas Picher, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

Rochester wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-2 win against St. Joseph on the 22nd. As for Winchester Thurston, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-3 loss against Leechburg on the 22nd.
