Preview: Piedmont Wildcats vs. Shawnee Wolves
Piedmont is 2-0 against Shawnee since September of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Piedmont Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Shawnee Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Piedmont is not getting complacent, as they comes into the match much higher ranked than Shawnee in Oklahoma (Piedmont is ranked 30th, while Shawnee is ranked 130th).
Piedmont never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Eisenhower two weeks ago. Piedmont strolled past Eisenhower with points to spare, taking the game 43-25. The score was all tied up 13-13 at the break, but Piedmont was the (much) better team in the second half.
Meanwhile, Shawnee pushed their score all the way to 31 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were beaten by Eisenhower 60-31. Shawnee was down 47-24 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Dace Shaw, who rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Zyron Campbell also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Piedmont's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.5 points per game. Shawnee has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Piedmont against Shawnee when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 44-7 win. Will Piedmont repeat their success, or does Shawnee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
