After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Shawnee Mission Northwest, Shawnee Mission East was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They slipped by the Lawrence Free State Firebirds 48-47.

The win got Shawnee Mission East back to even at 4-4-1. As for Lawrence Free State, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3-1.

Shawnee Mission East and Lawrence Free State could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Shawnee Mission East (ranked 134th) will meet McPherson (ranked 21st) at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Lawrence Free State will challenge Olathe Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th down 46 places (66 vs. 20).
