Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Kernels vs. Pierre T.F. Riggs Governors

The Mitchell Kernels will venture away from home to square off against the Pierre T.F. Riggs Governors on Friday.

Mitchell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Washington, who was ranked tenth at the time (Mitchell was ranked 18th). Mitchell received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 64-48 to Washington. The Kernels haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Meanwhile, Pierre T.F. Riggs beat Brookings 72-59 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Governors in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won seven in a row.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Pierre T.F. Riggs, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Mitchell and Pierre T.F. Riggs were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, but Mitchell came up empty-handed after a 48-47 defeat. Can Mitchell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
