Basketball Recap: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. Centennial Rams
A well-balanced attack led the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds over the Centennial Rams in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Sangre de Cristo blew the Rams out of the water with a 54-14 final score. Sangre de Cristo pushed the score to 39-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rams had little chance of recovering from.
Sangre de Cristo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Audrina Knorr, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Knorr has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaydra Cordova, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Centennial's loss came despite strong showings from Laila Garcia and Reina Aguilera. Garcia scored three points along with 11 rebounds and three steals, while Aguilera scored no points along with six blocks. Aguilera is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Centennial struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sangre de Cristo racked up 11 assists.
Sangre de Cristo's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Sangre de Cristo will be playing at home against the Miners at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Creede is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Centennial, they will take on the Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
