Softball Game Preview: Tom Bean Tomcats vs. Whitewright Tigers

The Tom Bean Tomcats will venture away from home to face off against the Whitewright Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tom Bean has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight defeats, while Whitewright will come in with three straight wins.

On Friday, Tom Bean didn't have quite enough to beat Sam Rayburn and fell 12-11.

Meanwhile, Whitewright made easy work of Collinsville on Friday and carried off a 17-1 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

Taryn Minzenmayer made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Courtney Brumley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Severson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Whitewright kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

Whitewright's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Tom Bean, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Tom Bean might still be hurting after the 23-0 defeat they got from Whitewright when the teams last played back in February. Can Tom Bean avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
