Baseball Recap: Holgate Comes Up Short

Holgate extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pettisville Blackbirds. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blackbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Holgate saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Boecker, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Matt Healy also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Pettisville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Pettisville's side, Caden Bishop spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. Bishop has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Creighton Aeschliman, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Quinn Ripke, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holgate will host North Baltimore at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Pettisville, they will welcome Paulding at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
