Volleyball Game Preview: Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats vs. Peoria Heights Patriots

Cuba/Spoon River Valley is 8-2 against Peoria Heights since October of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will welcome the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Peoria Heights took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cuba/Spoon River Valley, who comes in off a win.

If Abingdon/Avon wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they should've done a better job of containing Mollie Cornell. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Tornadoes 2-1 on Thursday with plenty of help from Cornell, who had 23 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

In the two sets Cuba/Spoon River Valley was on fire: they won each by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-14, 25-12.

Meanwhile, Peoria Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Havana.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Peoria Heights sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-23, 21-25, 25-20.

The victory made it two in a row for Cuba/Spoon River Valley and bumps their season record up to 11-4. As for Peoria Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.

Cuba/Spoon River Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Peoria Heights in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
