Preview: Mason Comets vs. Bellbrook Golden Eagles
The Mason Comets will head out on the road to face off against the Bellbrook Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Wednesday, Mason humbled Middletown with a 63-36 victory. Given Mason's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Middletown is ranked 448th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mason's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jazmyn Johnson, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Parrish, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, after only 22 points in their last matchup, Bellbrook made sure to put some points up on the board against Trotwood-Madison on Monday. Bellbrook simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Trotwood-Madison 57-14 at home. With Bellbrook ahead 36-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Mason's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.33 points. As for Bellbrook, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Everything went Mason's way against Bellbrook in their previous meeting back in January as Mason made off with a 57-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mason since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
