Baseball Game Preview: Gainesville Cardinals vs. Patriot Pioneers

The Gainesville Cardinals will take on the Patriot Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gainesville's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Patriot's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Gainesville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: St. John's, who was ranked first in their home state at the time (Gainesville was ranked ninth). The Cardinals fell just short of the Cadets by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 26 runs the game before, Patriot was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They came up short against Highland, falling 10-2. Like the Cardinals, the Pioneers also had to let a streak go: they had won six straight, but that streak is no more.

Patriot's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Gainesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.
