Softball Game Preview: Cape Fear Colts vs. North Johnston Panthers

The Cape Fear Colts will square off against the North Johnston Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cape Fear knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully North Johnston likes a good challenge.

Cape Fear barely beat Lumberton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Cape Fear blew past Lumberton 18-1 on Tuesday. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Karalina Tomasic made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Tomasic was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cape Fear got a massive performance out of Allie Dawson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Dawson is crushing it when it comes to hits: she's got at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was McKinley Kolasa, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Cape Fear always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .565 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, North Johnston had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against South Johnston, falling 18-3. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost three in a row.

Cape Fear's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for North Johnston, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
