Baseball Game Preview: Center Grove Trojans vs. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves

The Center Grove Trojans will head out to challenge the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Center Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Center Grove's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over University. The win was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won three contests in a row.

Cayden Jones was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Center Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Covenant Christian by a score of 5-0.

Josh Bingman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evan O'Brien, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Anthony Suscha was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Center Grove pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Center Grove skirted past Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory 9-8 in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
