Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Piedmont's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

Piedmont's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let the Monroe Redhawks get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashlyn Pressley and Lilli Leopold made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Pressley pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Leopold pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pressley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Pressley went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one triple, while Leopold earned two runs and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave Pressley a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lilly Carr was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Charli Lutz, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Piedmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Piedmont has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe, their defeat was their 25th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-18.

Piedmont has already played their next match, a 9-1 win against Central Academy on the 30th. Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
