League recap: Duncan breaks off league-leading run for Madison County

AAAA Region 8 recap September 4, 2013

Xavier Duncan of Madison County ran for the longest rushing play in AAAA Region 8 this season against Oconee County last week. Duncan scampered for 70 yards on the play and finished with 153 on the day as his team topped the Warriors.

Canyon Cook and Devin Valentine provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Apalachee. The connection was good for 60 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.

Lanier's dynamic duo of Cook and Valentine proved tough for the Wildcats to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cook threw for 70 yards and Valentine had 60 yards receiving.

Valentine was the best wideout in the league this week as Bill Wells' team bested Shane Davis' team.

Tario Fuller provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lanier defeated the Wildcats.

Cook put up the best numbers through the air as Lanier beat Apalachee.

Duncan was the most successful running back in AAAA Region 8 this week. Garrison Harris also contributed to the rushing game with 46 yards on the ground.

Eastside was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in the league. The Eagles beat Newton 34-28 earlier in the week.
