Baseball Game Preview: Mendon Vikings vs. Batavia Blue Devils

The Mendon Vikings will take on the Batavia Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mendon barely beat Canandaigua Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings blew past the Braves 10-1 last Saturday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Mendon got a great performance from Ethan Postle as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Postle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samuel Harrigan was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Noah Sansone was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Mendon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Batavia made easy work of Aquinas Institute on Friday and carried off a 20-8 win.

Mendon is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Batavia, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-10.

Everything went Mendon's way against Batavia in their previous matchup on May 9th, as Mendon made off with a 7-1 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
