Softball Game Preview: Montgomery Tigers vs. Avoyelles Charter Vikings

The Montgomery Tigers will head out to challenge the Avoyelles Charter Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Montgomery's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Avoyelles as they made off with a 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Avoyelles Charter hadn't beaten Monterey on the road since March 28, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Wolves. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since March 28, 2024.

Lillyan Dauzat tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits were her first of the season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lily Rousseau, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiya Heath, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Montgomery pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Avoyelles Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-15 record this season.

Everything went Montgomery's way against Avoyelles Charter in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, as Montgomery made off with an 11-0 victory. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
