Softball Recap: McAllen Memorial Mustangs vs. McAllen Bulldogs

McAllen Memorial had lost seven straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-16 to make it eight. They lost 11-3 to the McAllen Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 25-9 back in March.

McAllen Memorial saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Gallardo, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Laila Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for McAllen, the win got them back to even at 9-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On McAllen's side, Eliana Villanueva made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Villanueva was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Katalyna Rojas was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Giada Farias was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
