Softball Recap: Bacon Academy Comes Up Short

If Bacon Academy was riding high fresh off their 13-1 takedown of Norwich RVT on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bobcats fell just short of the Woodstock Academy Centaurs by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Centaurs from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Riley Stolzman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Talia Ramos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Reina Hill was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Bacon Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Woodstock Academy, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Bacon Academy will challenge Waterford at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woodstock Academy, they will face off against Norwich Free Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Centaurs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
