Basketball Recap: Gavin Greene's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Coconino over Sage Creek

It was a good run, but Coconino unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 76-60 bruising from the Sage Creek Bobcats. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (59), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Coconino's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Greene, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Greene a new career-high in boards. Oryon Huayhualla was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Leading Sage Creek to victory were Elijah Stephens and Jordan Barnhart. Stephens dropped a double-double on 31 points and 12 rebounds, while Barnhart posted 23 points. The matchup was Stephens' 27th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Naccarato, who had six points.

Coconino's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Sage Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Coconino wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-54 defeat against Paradise Honors on the 4th. As for Sage Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-45 loss against Vista Murrieta on the 4th.
