Softball Game Preview: Maria Carrillo Pumas vs. San Leandro Pirates

The Maria Carrillo Pumas will challenge the San Leandro Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maria Carrillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Maria Carrillo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Heritage get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Pumas, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Paige Richards, who gave up just four hits to keep Heritage off the board.

On the hitting side, Maria Carrillo let Alivia Vetter and Erin Kelleher run wild. Vetter went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Kelleher went 2-for-3 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachaely Yaya, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Maria Carrillo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 12-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, San Leandro hadn't done well against Arroyo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Dons 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 26th.

The win made it two in a row for San Leandro and bumps their season record up to 20-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Maria Carrillo, their win bumped their record up to 15-10.
