Recap: Hinkley Thunderbirds vs. Northfield Nighthawks

This season hasn't been kind to the Hinkley Thunderbirds, who are still winless after their ninth match. They had to suffer through a rough 65-7 loss at the hands of Northfield. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hinkley in their matchups with Northfield: they've now lost four in a row.

Hinkley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ana Taufa, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.

Northfield found their leader in underclassman Madison Bethel, who scored 11 points along with eight steals. Bethel hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Faith Nelson, who scored four points along with two steals.

Hinkley bumped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their 17th straight on the road. As for Northfield, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Hinkley will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Rangeview at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Rangeview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Friday. As for Northfield, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Denver West at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Denver West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Northfield is ranked 14th).
