Softball Recap: Calais Comes Up Short

Calais extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They came up short against the Houlton Shiretowners, falling 14-1. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their defeat to the Shiretowners from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Calais saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Wentworth, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.

As for Houlton, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Considering they have won four matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Houlton's side, Amelya Matwyko was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Matwyko was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mylee Sylvia, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Kylah Tuttle was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Calais will venture away from home to take on Mattanawcook at 1:00 p.m. on the 25th. As for Houlton, they will head out to face off against Presque Isle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
