Soccer Game Preview: Vanden vs. Wood

Vanden hasn't had much luck against Wood recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Vanden Vikings will take on the Wood Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.

Vanden took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won by a goal and slipped past River City 2-1. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Raiders are ranked 676th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Juan Sotelo and Carter Cipollone scored both of Vanden's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 14 goals.

Meanwhile, for the first time since back in December of 2024, Wood was forced to settle for a draw on Friday. They and Pioneer finished up on equal footing with a 2-2 draw.

Vanden's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1-1. Wood's draw gives them a new season record of 3-4-2.
