Softball Preview: St. David Tigers vs. San Simon Longhorns
The St. David Tigers will head out on the road to take on the San Simon Longhorns at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. David has three straight wins, San Simon has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
St. David lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Mogollon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. St. David blew past Mogollon 13-1 on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Paisley Gooding was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, St. David got a massive performance out of Emelynn Jacquez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, Jacquez posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Hart, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
St. David was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, San Simon lost 25-11 to Hayden on Monday.
San Simon's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for St. David, their record is now 8-3.
Everything went St. David's way against San Simon in their previous meeting last Monday, as St. David made off with a 22-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. David since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
